Andy Starnes
Andy Starnes ist seit über 30 Jahren engagiert im Feuerwehrdienst tätig, davon 25 Jahre als Berufskraftfeuerwehrmann und zuletzt als Battalion Chief, bevor er 2023 in den Ruhestand ging. Er besitzt einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Fire Science Administration von der Fayetteville State University und lebt mit seiner Frau Sarah und Tochter Emma in Shelby, North Carolina.
Als Inhaber und leitender Ausbilder von Insight Fire Training ist Andy international für seine Expertise in Wärmebildtechnik bekannt. Er hat Feuerwehrabteilungen in allen 50 US-Bundesstaaten und zahlreichen anderen Ländern geschult. Seine Trainingsprogramme werden weltweit eingesetzt, unter anderem in Kanada, Deutschland, Taiwan, Spanien und Polen.
Andy hat an der Entwicklung vieler Feuerwehrprodukte mitgewirkt, insbesondere im Bereich Wärmebildkameras, und arbeitet eng mit Herstellern zusammen, um neue Standards zu setzen. Insight Training LLC entwickelte die erste thermografie-basierte Feuerwehrzertifizierung, akkreditiert durch die Western Kentucky University.
Neben seiner Ausbildungsarbeit engagiert sich Andy als Vorstandsmitglied der gemeinnützigen „5-Alarm Task Force“, die Ersthelfer unterstützt, und als Master Craftsman bei Project Kill the Flashover. Er ist ein gefragter Sprecher auf internationalen Feuerwehrkonferenzen und war Gast in zahlreichen Podcasts.
Für seine herausragenden Leistungen wurde Andy 2023 in die „Hall of Legends, Legacies, and Leaders“ des National Fire Heritage Centers aufgenommen. Im Januar 2025 wurde er zudem zu den 20 einflussreichsten Feuerwehrpersönlichkeiten der USA vom Fire Safety Journal Americas gekürt.
Andy Starnes has been actively involved in the fire service for over 30 years, including 25 years as a professional firefighter and most recently as Battalion Chief, before retiring in 2023. He holds a bachelor's degree in Fire Science Administration from Fayetteville State University and lives with his wife Sarah and daughter Emma in Shelby, North Carolina.
As the owner and lead instructor of Insight Fire Training, Andy is internationally recognized for his expertise in thermal imaging technology. He has trained fire departments in all 50 US states and numerous other countries. His training programs are used worldwide, including in Canada, Germany, Taiwan, Spain, and Poland.
Andy has been involved in the development of many firefighting products, particularly in the field of thermal imaging cameras, and works closely with manufacturers to set new standards. Insight Training LLC developed the first thermography-based firefighting certification, accredited by Western Kentucky University.
In addition to his training work, Andy is a board member of the non-profit 5-Alarm Task Force, which supports first responders, and a master craftsman at Project Kill the Flashover. He is a sought-after speaker at international firefighting conferences and has been a guest on numerous podcasts.
For his outstanding achievements, Andy was inducted into the National Fire Heritage Center's “Hall of Legends, Legacies, and Leaders” in 2023. In January 2025, he was also named one of the 20 most influential firefighting personalities in the US by Fire Safety Journal Americas.
